It Ends with Us: A Novel

NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING BLAKE LIVELY AND JUSTIN BALDONI!

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and All Your Perfects, a “brave and heartbreaking novel that digs its claws into you and doesn’t let go, long after you’ve finished it” (Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author) about a young woman in a new relationship who can’t stop thinking about her first love.

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

An honest, evocative, and tender novel, It Ends with Us is “a glorious and touching read, a forever keeper. The kind of book that gets handed down” (USA TODAY).

I overall enjoyed the book, although there were some things about the "timelines" of events/people that bugged me. I found myself distracted away from the story with "wait, what. How long ago did they meet? When did this or that happen, how old was he/she when this/that...(no spoilers here :) It just lent to some things feeling questionably realistic.

Oh, and there was another part that rubbed me the wrong way. I don't want to be immersed in others' fictional lives (which was easy - the characters were very real, the writing very well done) and notice being pulled away for a "PSA". Of course, I'm unable to recall exactly what it was in-this-moment; however, the idea is that it felt as tho the author's "political" leanings were beginning to take over. What I'm not talking about is the nice job the author did finessing the major underlying theme of violence. She tastefully addressed a dark topic while realistically enlightening readers about the not easily understood more intricate aspects.

Again, overall an enjoyable read. I found myself thinking about, and looking forward to seeing what was going on with my book friends when I'd have to put the book down to do other things.

I loved it and had to immediately pick up the next one. I think it’s an important topic to openly discuss, and I really appreciated the theme of women uplifting women throughout the story. Spoiler! I especially loved that Ryle’s sister Allysa was on Lily’s side the entire time. It was refreshing to see that kind of support. Colleen Hoover did a great job building the characters and their relationships in a way that made everything feel so real. Getting to see the movie with our book club made it even more fun! Definitely recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was shocked when I figured out the genre of this book was romance. With all the drama that surrounded the movie, I thought I would give this book a try when it was free to listen to on the Libby app. What I didn't know was that I wasn't going to be able to stop listening. So I learned two things - apparently I do enjoy romance novels AND I am a sucker for books with lots of trauma. Lily is an amazing character and hearing the author talk about WHY she wrote this books was truly heart wrenching.

Look, I get the hate this book got, but here's why I don't care. It was a f***ing good book, and I couldn't put it down. Not all books need to be making a politically correct statement. It is fiction, after all. I don't support domestic abuse any more than I did before reading this book... I also feel like CoHo wrote the characters as deeply flawed people for a reason. It's realistic and gut-wrenching, as it should be.
